The Very Rev.William McMillan

The death of Very Rev.William McMillan took place on the 19th January 2020. Known simply as Rev. Mac he always had a twinkle in his eye and an impish sense of humour. He was a theologian and a great preacher, he was a pastor who loved people. In his spare time he was a teacher, a gardener and a world champion flower arranger.
During his lifetime Mac was awarded an MBE and the Albert Schweitzer Award for his services to charity and for promoting Religious Freedom; these awards came during the time of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
As a student Mac’s mentor was the Dublin Minister Rev. Savell Hicks. Mac served as Minister in charge of the Dublin congregation for two periods 1962-1964 and again 1993-1996. Mac’s early Ministry was spent in Newry then he spent forty two years as Minister in Dunmurry.
A few years ago the Denomination voted Mac the title of “Very Rev.” Mac’s wry response was “They obviously expect me to die soon”. Ní beidh a leithéid arís Mac was a once off and will be sadly missed.

May he rest in peace.
